When you’ve got the sh*tty end of the stick.. now what?

That famous Uk saying widely used when, well, the shit hits the fan.. you’re on the wrong side of it. All about you, things just seem to fall apart and you notice, they just get worse and worse. Obstacle after obstacle after more obstacles.. it inevitably weathers even the most joyous positive of people, down to a nugget, about the smallest size of a Russian doll, you know the one, the one that looks like a tiny little peg with absolutely none of the features it’s larger compatriots have. Then, law of attraction kicks in. Thanks universe!.. I mean way to kick a dog while it’s down and although it isn’t always right, it is absolutely fair.. which means, if you’re on a negative spiral of thoughts and feelings, well, brace yourself because things are about to get much much worse! You’re feeling lost, the universe says, ‘well here’s more things to reinforce that feeling of loss for you’.. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, ‘here you go, more overwhelmed, we deliver’.. you’re feeling depressed, unhappy, frustrated.. guess what?.. Purchases go missing, orders weren’t placed, people add more pressure on you, you feel the weight of the world snd your issues pin you down as the little law of attraction devil runs riot until you finally stop, in your tracks, take note and make a conscious change.


Personal story today I made up my last cup of cinammon bun latte, which I adore, and being half asleep, I managed to mistake my spice jars and ended up gleefully powdering the top of my latte with.. cumin! The spice jars here in the Uk have a yellow top, leaf type ones (parsley, basil..) have a green lid. It was an easy mistake to make but ooooo wake up call!!


Over this week I’ve been linocut printing on fabric as part of a business I run and I’ve been testing on different fabrics, as that’s the medium I want to print on. It’s been tricky.. more tricky than printing is to get it to actually ‘stay’ on the fabric once it’s washed. I can’t provide a beautiful printed t-shirt and on the first wash a customer would have a fresh clean BLANK t-shirt.. or worse, with little bits of printing on there that are faded to nothing.


At the same time I’ve upgraded my laptop.. I know, clearly have a penchance for elevated stress levels.. and that turned out to be a ball ache where I had to screw and unscrew the back of my laptop HD and Ram slots umpteen times as it didn’t seem to work. I did the logical thing of upgrading the lot, didn’t work. Adding back the old Hd.. didn’t work. Then swapping back the old ram.. THAT didn’t work. Anyways I got there in the end as my in experience meant missing out on the 45 degree angle ram has to be clicked in before pushing down to slot. she warned! All!.. Before that was backing up where I’ve had to leave the laptop running overnight it was that slow! Finally sorted I’ve been reinstalling Windows, adding software.. had to buy software.. truly a technological delight I was glad to go for a long walk and feel less digital and more human for a moment.


Then I purchased something from Etsy this week which arrived the wrong size.. it has contradicting information and the seller will not refund the purchase and on top of it has been (this is on-going) super aggressive, much like my postoffice crazy lady experience. I have been polite and sadly, earrings are non refundable so on that front I do understand her and said as much. It was money badly spent snd I explained where I was coming from, wished her well and said goodbye. The review is yet to come so as a consumer I could just never post one but my wronged side will explain to other consumers that it is not a traditional size and for them to pay attention when ordering. Nothing nasty just it would have prevented ME from wasting my money had I seen a review like that on her site.


Now, I’ve just said, STOP! It’s Friday. Just stop. Stop the perpetuating doom, make peace with your inks and hope last nights trials will come to fruition, know that someone else will love the earrings as they are and will make a beautiful present, the laptop is running beautifully and so fast I’m sooooo happy!.. in the grand scheme of life, all of these, are bum fluff really. To anyone not from the uk, bare with my analogies, I hope they still make contextual sense.


To do what I do I..

Step 1:

Well, first of all just notice all that has gone awry and send it gleefully to the Gods of mischief for this week.. and giggle. Truly. I do not mean the severity of loss here, I am merely referring to only the usual frustrations we all experience in our day-to-day lives.


Taking stock of the day, week(s), month(s) you’ve had is a sure way of eye-balling the universe and saying that from now on, many many good things will show up. The way to do that.. is to focus on the other 4 things in your life going super well and leave that one (whatever ratio works for you here) behind. By focusing on that which you have difficulties with lends your focus to what isn’t working in your life.. then you receive more of what isn’t working. Me, above?.. frustrations. On every interaction with life. Though what I did focus on as well this week, was how utterly awesome my friends are, how lucky I am to have a little piece of nature that provided me with a much needed walk and respite and also how my health has been better this week not to mention me finally opening my Etsy shop! Go me!.. All incredibly positive which is why the laptop has worked and I feel wonderful, the linocut print well it’ll work when it’s ready, the Etsy shop well I spoke to her in my best calm way to deal with things and my morning coffee well I managed to scoop most of the cumin off the top and ended up with, well, a spicy latte! Not to be repeated.


Step 2:

Gratitude. Be grateful for everything that you have in your life. At the end of the day, I have a home, water, food, my health, family, friends, love.. what more could I possibly want for? The rest is something easily replaced, the stuff we add into our lives, but does not make for the essentials.


Just remember what you have and take for granted.. job? Well many have lost theirs now. Your health? I for one have come out of illness and losing all my hair I cannot stress enough how immensely grateful I am for my life. Good friends? There are some people who find themselves longing for their own soul tribe and if you are one of those, know, that right here, are many more of the same mindset as you and that when the world reopens you will be able to get out, meet and make new friends. To those who have them, they are our diamonds. I love the blood pumping in my veins that takes much needed oxygen to all my cells so that they may function properly. I thank the morning light which reminds me, whether the sun is visible or not, it is always there, hiding behind the clouds, just waiting to get out. I am happy for my skin, the largest human organ, that keeps me protected. I am grateful for coffee and whoever invented it, for gas and a car, for legs that still work to carry me on my walks or runs, my laptop I can use to do graphic design on, my eyesight that enables me to see the world and do my job, my shoes, toothbrush, clothes, face cream, money, food, washing machine, oven, tea, tv!!, netflix, plants, incense sticks, salt lamp, salt, ears.. There is absolutely millions and millions of things to be grateful for. Pick whatever works for you.. and run with it!


Step 3:

This is where you get to ‘visualise‘ your following week, months or year ahead but this is how it works. It is a caveat that law of attraction follows what you ‘feel‘ not what you ‘think’.. though the two tie in usually. So if my focus on a problem cannot give me the feeling required for the positively positive attraction then I need to focus elsewhere, like sunshine, my health, my dog, whatever brings joy into your life and then you hold that feeling and thought u til everything else in your life straightens out, and it will. By the law of attraction it cannot do anything but positively attract that which you are feeling. At least, that is the philosophy behind it and I for one like living my life as close to it as I can.. it’s worth a try. If anything you will be living a more positive lifestyle and mindset to boot.


So with my personal reference to my week I’ve had.. I feel my next week will be smooth and easy, I can feel the relief and create the feeling of relief of it. The feeling of accomplishment. That everyone around me will be right there when I need an explanation or help in any way, that the answers and solutions will come with great ease and speed I need not worry about any of these things that have happened this week.. though if I felt particularly antagonistic with the seller on Etsy, if I was really unhappy with my linocut prints and allowed these to spiral out of my control for the day, then my focus would need to be positively engaged elsewhere that would bring me that feeling contrary to what I was projecting. By focusing on the good things in life, it does not mean that the ‘real’ issues will not get resolved, no. All that you have put energy into in your life is still there, still something you continue to grow and have hopes for in future you see the universe is fair in its attraction, much in an opposite way to a magnet where positive and negative attract.. with law of attraction, like attracts like.. which means it also brings to fruition everything you put positive energy on, not necessarily focus on. Again, if focusing on your problem is too negative a vibe, you need to focus on all the other things that are going positively in your life.


Step 4:

If you’ve tried everything and it has all failed, the next step to take is a nap. Yup! I know I touched on this subject before but taking a nap or sleeping is out natural ‘reset’ button. If you truly cannot focus on anything but the negative, then go to sleep. You might find it takes a few sleeps before you feel you can get on top of your emotions. Once that happens then you can focus your thoughts on a more positive subject and watch your week turn around!


Step 5;

All there is left to do.. is follow your intuition. Imagine that you are always magnetically attracted to something deliciously good out there. If you suddenly get the urge to go out for a walk somewhere you haven’t been for a while, do it! You may bump into an old friend you’ve been meaning to call for a while. This part is truly open to what you as individuals, desire. Punctuate that. It’s up to you!


So!.. I know this weekend and this coming week is going to be brilliant! I am excited for a few walks to see friends, to start sorting out my garden to grow a little vegetable patch in it.. my week ahead is going to be brilliant! What are you attracting to your week ahead? I hope it’s a good one!
