Todays message of the week is confidence. Such a vast word for something so very personal.. by this, confidence or the lack of confidence can be applied in countless situations in life, absolutely it affect us on a personal level but then it domino‘s like the game where one block knocks the next one down snd so forth into our work with our peers and colleagues, at home with our family, with our friends and even down to feeling eloquent enough to pick up a phone and talk to someone. In all these ways, confidence affects ones life is such a profound and complete way it can be quite difficult to believe that you only need to change how you see yourself because you are a perfect human as you are!

Confidence is something we are initially taught by our family, it’s being praised for doing well in school, helping someone, finishing your chores.. it is about self-achievement but it’s also about self-acceptance. ‘We are who we are and be damned the rest of the world’, type of thing. The latter is the one we most struggle with when we are not that image of perfection so often shown in magazines and social media who often have depicted the air-brushed, photoshopped image of perfection that no human would be capable of ascending to naturally.
There was an article I read where one photograph of a woman in a bra and underwear was sent to several different countries like China, Russia, Australia, Brazil, India.. for marketing research purposes to be ‘doctored’ as per their idea of beauty. The original model was a typical size 16 roughly, curvaceous hourglass figure just beautiful woman.
The results were astonishing. This woman was messed with where she didn’t look like herself, she had lost 5 stones and looked like a stick with an athletic figure in one photo, in another they gave her bigger boobs, another made her more curvaceous with bigger boobs and hips, others they even gave her a Donald Trump tan. For the uk, bigger bust and curvaceous seemed to be what is classed as your typical Page 3 girl beauty. I found it interesting.. and also thought, ‘well.. this explains a lot!’
Although retailers have been changing their models and are shown to be hiring models who are not ‘perfect’ or airbrushed, this issue of perfection in media has been a long standing one, still ingrained in out varied and different cultures idea of what beauty is.
Your card for this week is here to say that no matter what anyone says, you are beautiful, unique and awesome! As it says for you to look at yourself with the pride of a good mother.. if you were your own child you would praise them, love them, nurture them, be proud of them for everything they are and everything they have achieved. It is not about visiting the negative aspects of your child, you would never do that, you would see those and say that those are also part of what makes them amazing and still be beaming with pride that they are your child.
This week is about praising yourself for all the wonderful things you do and praising yourself for all the hard work you put in to change negative habits within. Recognising what needs to change should not span your entire life and person. We all have things within ourselves we want to change but recognising those and working hard to change them is key. But confidence is accepting those internal/external flaws as such, and continue to feel A+ and deserving of all the good and wonderful that life deliberately throws your way. After all.. would these opportunities turn up if you weren’t?
Have a wonderful week ahead
