Numerology and why

This week’s Ashram Monday’s (no.7) just broached the subject of numbers and numerology but whether you believe in it or not, here are some mathematics on achieving them.. and what they mean to me.. (on that note, when I wrote this yesterday, the date was 4, 3, 21)..
First of all.. some history. Wikipedia states,
“Numerology is any belief in the divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events. It is also the study of the numerical value of the letters in words, names, and ideas. It is often associated with the paranormal, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts.” - Wikipedia
Historically, where Pythagoras, St Augustine of Hippo and several other philosophers of the time, we are talking 354 AD so, not an idea born yesterday, had firm beliefs that numbers had a co-relation to all things in life, a divine connection, and that it was up to our minds to see the pattern. As you can imagine the Greek Orthodox Church at the time was not too keen on this idea and along with cartomancy, tarot, astrology and any other belief not in the good book at the time, was classed as unreliable and was immediately unapproved.
Despite this historic dalliance with Christianity, there were also many other explorations of numerology, some of which were alchemical links with a Persian/Arab background; quincunxes (organisation of 5 objects to form a pattern) linked to design, nature and botany.. but between 1931 ~ 1985 several numerologists shaped the meaning that we know today. A study of personality, hidden divine meanings, premonition and foretelling.
Here’s a very little bit of numerological connections in Tarot:
0 - Brand new start, innocent, tiny, born
1 - First move, beginning of something new
2 - soulmate, balance, stability, choice
3 - laying foundations, working together, friendship, solidarity
4 - decisions, rest, happy home and stability
5 - discussions, group meeting, issues to be resolved, hope, loss, sadness
6 - victory, love, harmony, generosity
7 - standing your ground, reminiscing, growing, change, boredom
8 - hard work, building, attention to detail, journey
9 - happiness, wish fulfilled, worry
10 - fulfilment, completion, end, adds down to the number 1.. so can mean endings and beginnings, coming full cycle.
These just give a little flavour of numbers in Tarot.. So how can you start to discover numerology in your life? Well one of the most determining categories, is to find your Life Path Number. This number is said to affect you daily, monthly, yearly.. as we travel a timeline entirely based on numbers (day, month, year.. time) it will always affect you.
To find your Life Path Number you need your date of birth and here is a sample formula: example dob: 22-03-1990
Year: 1990 = 1+9+9+0 = 19 = 10 = 1
Month: 3
Day: 22
Your Life Path Number is: 1+3+22 (4) = 8
Each number above is said to describe the three periods in your life; Childhood, Youth and Adulthood; Year, Month and Day. The important part to this is how your life path number relates to this year for example.. 5 (2021) which is no surprising is the year of strife. Number 5’s in the Tarot are all about strife, discussion, abandonment, sadness and loss and with it our personal evolution and development. So 8 which is the number of work, building, practicality, personal journey, seeing your way out of being stuck as number 8’s always want more.. meets a 5 year! This person may find themselves even more concerned on building stability and curbing their desires for more with the world having to stop. Number 8 people tend to want more and to build more in their lives.. It will be a year of major personal development for them/you which will bring balance to an 8 Life Path Number in the end.

As for me, I had a firm dislike for numbers to start with.. maths was never my strong subject in school but I have to thank my high school teacher who used to throw chalk at our heads and make us stand in front of the classroom, embarrassingly so, to shout out the answer. Theres nothing that makes you fight more than someone telling you that you’ll never be any good at something.. so I made sure I got through to calculus which I surprisingly quite enjoyed.. but by then, algebra and trigonometry oddly stole my heart! Thanks Pythagoras, for the latter. Maths is oddly quite peaceful to me because unlike life, it has a definitive solution (most of the time), it’s oddly satisfying.
Despite having a very educational background to numbers/maths, the spiritual side of numbers as Numerology is something I’m feeling my way around, still. What started off as snippets of numbers turning up in my head became medical appointments, confirmations, dates for friends for something they’re waiting on and sometimes an address. Usually I feel whether they’re for days, months or year but sometimes I get a value of 1 for hours, 2 for days and 3 for months followed by the amount. For example, I get the number 3 and 4 a lot and I know it’s April. I don’t question it but a psychic friend once told me that days and months is how it works for her and it sort of stayed with me.. and it works, for me. I mean yesterday one of my neighbours told me that on the day of her fathers funeral she walked nearby on the golf course he used to love playing golf at and stopped at a golf ball. When she picked it up, it had her fathers name on it. He hadn’t played golf for years, a golf ball on a small popular golf course isn’t that odd a find but I have never seen one as they are usually recycled by the players and although Ron may be a popular name in this area.. statistically speaking, what are the odds of that? Had she not walked in that specific spot that day (believe me, it’s a vast area and not all is nicely cut grass) she would never have found it. Coincidence? Science says yes, with statistical odds against some of these elements all coinciding at the same time. Spiritually, I feel her father was letting her know he’s still here. I sort of have come to the conclusion that half of me is a highly logical/Science mind and end up at a rather unsettled combination with my spiritual other half haha. Like water and oil they sit side-by-side and any attempt at mixing them would only lead them to go back to their own side. But life is one big collaboration of synchronistic events that happens just at the right time.. for the positive events, it is just utterly beautiful.
In general though, numbers is mostly about counting change and calculating time. A few years ago I went through a series of big events in my life and whatever happened after that, I can’t explain. But if you casually and without thinking just take a look at your watch at just the right time to see the same number again.. then you spot a house number you have never ever bothered to look up at on a routine walk, and see the same number again! And then you buy the papers and slap bang on the front page is the number again. It’s true that once your brain sees a pattern it sees it everywhere and that you might be forcing the connection and searching for it where there isn’t any. Which is why I follow my inspiration to look somewhere or do something, not thinking or searching for ’the’ number, but because I want to, say, find the adverts page as I need a new microwave and in massive letters it will be there! Or the phone number for it adds up to the same number. Truly.. this has happened and it’s not something I can explain except to say that Scientifically it’s a lot of coincidences.. and spiritually I am being led to what I need through divine guidance and law of attraction. There is no structure that I could give you of how this works for me that would apply to you necessarily but what I was advised, is that ‘how’ you believe in numbers, is how this works for you! For example, the number 11:11 is an incredibly spiritual angelic number, and if you believe that, when you see 11:11 you may automatically feel comforted. Or you have numbers you always play in the lottery and feel lucky when you see those around. For me sometimes I get a number of days, weeks or a month in my head.. I feel guided, but in whatever positive way numbers bring meaning to you, is perfect!
I feel we all have the ability to tune into our intuition and let that guide us. So if you follow it, without forcing it or controlling it, you may be surprised just where it leads you! So this weekend ahead, if you are interested, pay a little more attention to the numbers that pop up in your life/head and check them out.. today, Friday 5th, has been coming up for a while now. For now my greatest repeat is 11:11.. on my watch, numbers add up to 11 or 222 or 3333’s.. I just roll with them and enjoy seeing them as somehow they bring me comfort in the knowledge that I’m being looked after. You are being looked after too, by the Universe, angels, God whatever your belief.. they always have your back.
